D. Gookin – Glad I Met You

Wednesday, August 15th, 2012

Such a simple song, but that synth just kills me. It’s so catchy, almost like it’s taunting me to listen again. The flute-like and xylophone sounds are really a nice touch as well. This guy has been around for a while and you better believe he’ll be on my radar from now on.

Blackmill – Miracle

Wednesday, August 15th, 2012

Oh man, so chill. Seriously, you’re welcome for this track. Those modulated pitches are so reminiscent to the old Super Nintendo Donkey Kong games too. Honestly I could listen to this track all day, it has so many facets that make it easy to put on heavy rotation. I suggest you do the same.

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros – 40 Day Dream

Tuesday, August 14th, 2012

This is such a chill song; very simplistic instrument wise. What you mainly hear is the strings in the background, the heartbeat-like drums, and of course, Alex Ebert’s sick vocals. The song stirs up my hatred of dreams where you totally have the love of your life and you wake up and realize you are just as alone as ever. Sometimes I feel like “Nobody better pinch me, Bitch I swear, go crazy.” Man, it’s almost time for bed, maybe this time the dream will come true.

Bastille – Bad Blood

Tuesday, August 14th, 2012

So to be honest, I just stumbled upon this on Youtube a couple seconds ago and really dug what I heard. Obviously I love anything French, so their name instantly drew me in. It’s got such a good 80’s vibe and I absolutely love Dan Smith’s vocals. Those deep hand drums really make this song and give it an awesome beachy feel to match the opening scene of the video. Just watch out mid-way in with the kid eating what looks like traditional British dishes (haha), it’s not for the squeamish. Enjoy this you guys!

MSTRKRFT – Heartbreaker

Tuesday, August 14th, 2012

So you’ve probably heard this song, but what’s wrong with hearing (seeing) it again?! The keys…they are so entrancing and simple electric drums entice the senses and get the feet tapping in double time. This is really everything I love in songs and add in some simple synth and catchy vocals that are nothing more than someone singing to scales and you have a song that is destined to be played in retail establishments until the end of time.

Telekinesis – Tokyo

Tuesday, August 14th, 2012

In case it wasn’t clear, I am from Seattle and I got major pride for the music scene we have there. Here’s one of those bands that gets lost in the shuffle (I assume because of their more “mainstream” sound). I think they are really something special and while this track stands out, everything they put out is really good. Long story short…support local music so great acts like this don’t slip through unnoticed.

Ganglians – Cryin’ Smoke

Tuesday, August 14th, 2012

Here at Le Rez-de-Chaussée, we do not condone of drug use…BUUUUUUT, if you have to use, then this is the song to do it to (I mean look at the title). The tambourine, heavy strum, and drug induced lyrics scream pot head, but there is something really genuine and deep about this song. The harmonies really get me, but that isn’t saying much because I always was a sucker for any sort of harmonizing. Anyway, light up some friendship and share this with everyone you know.

Où Est Le Swimming Pool – Answers

Tuesday, August 14th, 2012

I certainly didn’t choose to post this song because it’s got a crazy complex sound; I did solely because it will be stuck in your head all day after one listen. I also love the bands name and find it intriguing that they replaced one of my favorite french words (la piscine=the swimming pool) for its English equivalent. Also, upon doing some research on the band, they were only together for a little over a year because one of their members committed suicide. Quite a sad story but it is great that they were able to produce a fun album that can be enjoyed for years to come.
