St. Vincent – Cruel

Tuesday, April 9th, 2013

Okay, okay, so this song is not new by any means, but it is just too good to not talk about! Actually, I would just post on it because of the video alone. St. Vincent is one of those dynamic artists who just continues to surprise. She effortlessly flows around the high notes along with the trembling lows that hold together the whole song. The horns in this track are just too great as well, I’m a sucker for brass in an Indie power-ballad such as this! Take some time an listen (and watch) this video a couple times and hit up her album “Strange Mercy” as it is packed with some really amazing songs!

Capital Cities – Kangaroo Court

Tuesday, April 9th, 2013

You might have heard of Capital Cities from their single “Safe and Sound” which has been getting some good coverage everywhere. Here is their second single in all of it’s power-pop goodness. Sure it is mainstream as hell, but honestly, who cares? Those horns kill it for me every time and the quick 8 bit synth in the back is just so much fun. This is just a great dance song and no doubt several remixes will come from it or have already come from it. Be on the lookout for “Capital Cities” t-shirts at your nearest Hot Topic and subsequently haters galore, but for now, enjoy this song!

Parquet Courts – Stoned and Starving

Tuesday, April 9th, 2013

So this song takes a little step away from what I normally post on, but that does not mean that it is not any less catchy than all the other songs. The first half of the song serves as a launchpad to get into the second half which appears to be almost improvisational and is so much fun. This particular video is live from SXSW and while the venue these guys are playing at is quite small (and full of bikes), they should definitely be on your radar because they are going places!
