I’m always a day late and a dollar short. No excuse other than just being busy is not my style and sometimes I literally can’t even. See above for this week’s new music!
First track is one that will stick around for a while, and is the second single we’ve heard from Miike Snow. I’ll admit, I was very much in for the last single I featured over a month ago on LRDC 11/3/15, but this track, entitled “Genghis Khan,” I am ALL THE WAY IN for!!! It’s absolute fire and if you were unsure of Miike Snow as a hitmaker, let this be the final proof that he is here and here to stay. Only HE could make such a sick song named after a 12th Century Mongol Emporer! This song is haunting and you’ll find it stuck in your head in no time flat. I’m so excited for the full length from these guys! Let’s keep that same Stockholm love and feature another act out of that city in Elias. This newcomer (read up-and-comer) has a track “Green Eyes” that kind of starts a bit like king Kanye West’s “Heartless,” and while not quite as catchy, I believe it’s every bit as good. The songs are actually a bit similar as how I’m interpreting the lyrics on Elias’ track is the feeling of being stuck in a relationship with someone who has trapped you. We’ve all felt that in one way or another. Love this song!
Next up this week is some fire from producer salute & singer Abra come together on a stellar track, “Colourblind.” Beautiful orchestration, solid driving beat, and airy vocals all make for a track that is ready to bumped the eff up in your ride.
I love bands that venture into the Alt genre while still having that DIY sound that Indie-mavens crave. A band that kills this for me is Craft Spells with their track “Our Park By Night.” It has a sound that is very digestible yet there is so much depth within it. It’s a great nighttime cruising song. Another act that breaks through the Alt bubble is a singer that goes by Anna of the North. With Scandinavians taking over much of this list, you would think I’m playing favorites with my people, but if you’ve been listening to these songs, you see why there on here. “The Dreamer” is a simple and straight-forward track that is delicate in all the right places swelling to the point where you’re stomping your feet to the beat. Infectious, ain’t it?
Let’s kick off some honorable mentions:
Lissie – “Don’t You Give up on Me” – Indie-folk that could easily be heard over an EDM track? That’s kind of my jam. This is a great ballad for anyone at any point in their life. Yay for empowerment!
Aquilo – “Never Seen You Get So Low” – Dat sex! If the guys of Aquilo are reading this, please pitch every softcore porn production company your music because it just gets the mood so right. I can’t stop listening to this track and the rest of the album. If you haven’t checked out the whole thing, run, don’t walk!
Thanks y’all and have a great week!
