The Monkees – She Makes Me Laugh

Thursday, April 28th, 2016

As you give this song a listen, let’s get to learn a bit more about me. The first concert I ever went to was in 1997 (at the young age of only 9) to see The Monkees in concert touring on their “Justus” record in a little town called Puyallup, WA. Not only was this a pivotal event in my life, The Monkees were a pivotal band in my life. From as far back as I can recall, this was the single band that build passion for music. Listening to their vinyl & tapes & CDs at a very young age, there wasn’t a day that went by where I wasn’t humming “Pleasant Valley Sunday” as I went on with my upper-middle class, privileged life. This rag-tag group of guys really spoke to me on a deeper level in that they were constantly taken as a joke of a band and were first and foremost seen just as TV show actors, not musicians. Well, I’m guessing you have heard of the band and probably a smaller handful of you have actually heard  of the TV show. This is the kind of influence they had as a band and it is very much alive today despite the passing of two of their founding members (Michael Nesmith & Davey Jones).

Let’s fast forward to a couple months ago when reports came in about The Monkees going back into the recording studio to get some new songs, and crazier yet, the songs would be penned by none other than Rivers Cuomo (of Weezer fame). Well, today we have the first track off of their upcoming album “Good Times!” and it’s called “She Makes Me Laugh.” It’s a flowery, light-hearted, lo-fi love song that really tugs on your heartstrings with all of it’s cuteness. The kitschy comic book style video matches the song so well and I really wouldn’t have this any other way. I’m excited to see what else The Monkees have in store for us!

Enjoy!

First and foremost, this is a blog about music. If you do not like the music, that is perfectly fine, as I am sure our tastes will clash. I aim to bring some originality to music blogs, so listen closely.
