Small Black – No Stranger

Tuesday, July 23rd, 2013

I’m back!!!!! Wow, I dropped off this for far too long. So much music missed, but I am here to deliver! Small Black came onto my radar around ’09 and very few do dreamy pop better than these guys. Liken them to a little bit of Washed Out with the upbeat tempo of Delorean. The textures in this song are so great and the drums give it such a great coastal vibe. This lovely little song about love at first sight might just be the song to set off your summer on the right foot!

Class Actress – Bienvenue

Welcome! If you didn’t know, I am a self-diagnosed Francophile; so anything French I’m pretty much going to fall in love with instantly. The video is shot on location in Paris and it kind of makes me want to start up a band, come up with a whole bunch of song titles in different languages, and travel around the world shooting videos. A worthy goal, to be sure. Back to this track, it’s crazy fast, and has a great foot-tapping beat that the other singles don’t quite have. That being said though, songs like “Keep You” and “Weekend” are also very good. It’s almost a crime that I haven’t listened to their full album yet. So looks like we both have some homework to do, so you check out the rest of their stuff and I will too.

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros – 40 Day Dream

Tuesday, August 14th, 2012

This is such a chill song; very simplistic instrument wise. What you mainly hear is the strings in the background, the heartbeat-like drums, and of course, Alex Ebert’s sick vocals. The song stirs up my hatred of dreams where you totally have the love of your life and you wake up and realize you are just as alone as ever. Sometimes I feel like “Nobody better pinch me, Bitch I swear, go crazy.” Man, it’s almost time for bed, maybe this time the dream will come true.

MSTRKRFT – Heartbreaker

Tuesday, August 14th, 2012

So you’ve probably heard this song, but what’s wrong with hearing (seeing) it again?! The keys…they are so entrancing and simple electric drums entice the senses and get the feet tapping in double time. This is really everything I love in songs and add in some simple synth and catchy vocals that are nothing more than someone singing to scales and you have a song that is destined to be played in retail establishments until the end of time.
