LRDC This Week New Music Playlist – 7/26/16

Tuesday, July 26th, 2016

Kicking off this week, we have a brand new track from Chairlift who just released a new album less than 8 months ago. They certainly aren’t wasting any time and the song is totally solid. It’s a bit slower than the past singles we have heard from them and has a bit of a fantasy vibe to it. Following this up is new music from Dent May. Everyone’s favorite Mississippian is back and as fun as ever! This song, “Face Down in the Gutter of Your Love” dances around in the squalor that is “love” and it’s quite cheeky.

Going ahead, we have the first track to be released from Kishi Bashi’s undoubtedly amazing new album. If you’re not familiar with this multi-instrumentalist, it’s about time you do some catching up (see “It All Began With a Burst” & “Philosophize In It! Chemicalize With It”). Once you do so, you will realize this guy is something special and so different from any other artist out there.

I’ve added a track that gets a bit deeper into Sofi Tukker’s repertoire and it is so dang fun (just like all of their songs). You may have heard “Drinkee” all over the freaking place, and dug it, well this one is just as catchy and it’s even in English, for all of us non-Portuguese speakers!

Towards the end, we have a track that is not new, it’s just straight out of the 80’s! It’s called A.H.B. and is from a band out of Austin, TX called S U R V I V E. It’s pure synth goodness and is super catchy. And last up, we have the debut track from a duo called The Linedots. They’re super new (a solid group of 46 people like them on Facebook at the time of this post) but not from the sounds of this track. It’s got some killer riffs that remind me a bit of Ratatat in all of the best ways and the fuzzy vocals from Evangeline Ling has a solid Lily Allen vibe.

Enjoy!

Hey all,

I’m going to request you slip on your favorite pair of chucks, blue suede shoes, shell toes, or whatever you prefer to dance in, because we’re going deep into some danceable jams!

First up is another crazy catchy song from Goldroom that will take you to a tropical island where everyone shuffles so hard. Contender for your summer playlist? I definitely think so! Following this up is a hit from Snakehips that has already been blasted all over Spotify by 2mm people in 4 days. His dancable electric-pop hits never fail to satiate the guiltiest of pleasures. I’m pretty sure if you pull up someone while listening to this song, they’ll actually wish they were friends with you. And to triple up on this killer set, there’s a new track out from Terror Jr who rocked my socks off with their last track, “3 Strikes.” Their sultry lyrics, vocals, and beats absolutely kill it on each and every track they have. I’m stoked to hear more and hopefully news of a full length. Let’s just keep this going because the next song has been lend some love from a band I really love called Savoir Adore and it’s by a producer named morgxn.

Skipping ahead a bit is the first effing song I have heard from Sleigh Bells that I have actually fallen in love since their 2010 album “Treats.” Granted, it is a departure from their “Rill Rill” scream-cheer shtick and I think they absolutely nail it! Great returns come in twos as we have a new song from Justice. YES, you remember “D.A.N.C.E”? Those guys are back and up to the same old hit-making! This song is accompanied by news of a full length, which will be their first proper album since 2011. Get swept up in this disco, y’all.

Closing out this week, we have a heavy track from M.I.A. with help from SkrillexBlaqstarr called “Go Off.” It’s a great song with a beat that hits crazy hard and I’m kind of stoked to see what kind of remixes spawn from this! Last up is a silky smooth track called “Caresse” from Montreal producer Fonkynson and band Le Couleur. It’s bright and beautiful and with me being obsessed with the French language, it only enhances the experience! Je l’aime!

Enjoy,

Greg

Dang, so I’m a day late, but better late than never. And boy, do I have a list for you. It’s dynamite and we’re starting off strong with a song from an individual that goes by Grenda out of TJ, Mexico! It certainly doesn’t sound like it’s from a guy out of Mexico, but rather straight from a dream. It’s smooth and beautiful. Moving on, the next two tracks from Weaves and Manwomanchild are pure, indie-pop tracks that I really was happy I found!

Following these is another killer track from Local Natives fully building the suspense and excitement for this upcoming album! I literally cannot contain my excitement, but I must, there is music to write about! We have some cool returns from artists we haven’t heard from in a while, including Pixies, Crystal Castles & Tycho. They are all very different tracks, but if you’re fan of any or all of these artists, their newest tracks will be right in your wheelhouse!

Skipping ahead a bit, we have another dreamy track, and this one is from French Indie outfit Tahiti 80. It’s straight jams and I really can listen to this song over and over and over again. This really applies to their whole album that was released last Friday and is called “…And The Rest is Just Crocodile Tears.” Keeping with the dream-pop, we go a bit psychedelic from the solo project of Jay Watson (of Tame Impala & POND) called GUM. It totally has some Tame Impala vibes with a bit of Panda Bear’s weirdness. I like it! Now, last up is a LOOOOOOOONG track. I do not say this lightly, as it is almost clocking in at 21 whole minutes. MAN, is this song a good one. Literally, all the way through, so go ahead, give it a listen and see what I’m saying. I really can’t get enough! It’s certainly sounds like a couple songs strung together yet it remains pretty cohesive. There’s a bit of 80’s sci-fi with some crunchy synth and some funk thrown in for good measure. While my girlfriend just told me to turn it off because it’s annoying, I think it’s totally cool!

Enjoy, dudes and dude-ettes.

Let’s get this kicked off with some new Calvin Harris and while I’ll be first to jump on the sell out train of EDM, this track includes Dizzee Rascal and it’s undeniable that this grime artist is something very unique. He transforms this track from another “whatever bro” club banger to something that is worthy to bump in even the most eclectic of speakers. The next song is an interesting mashup of genres, featuring Paul Banks of Interpol and RZA from Wu Tang Clan, they are called Banks and Steelz and it bangs. The contrast is so striking that it just works, not sure why…

Keeping with the rap and r&b, we have a song a bit later from an artist named Khalid (not to be confused with “another one”). This song starts out rough, but smooths out in a very nice way. His voice almost sounds like Bastille to me for some reason. It is just a solid track. Next up is jiving track from Ontario producer Andrew Hunt under the cryptic name FTRSL with some help of two other bands/artists named OwlsBears. Sure it’s kind of pop-y, but that’s definitely a plus, it’s smooth and so much fun.

Wrapping up the list we have a song from Los Angeles songstress White Sea. Her song “Ellipses” swells with so much intensity and it is absolutely beautiful! I liken her to a soprano version of Zola Jesus and I’m very much down. And now finishing off on a high note is a effervescent track from an artist named Xan Young. His music is a bit less enigmatic than all the cool images on Facebook, and I am a fan of that. It’s playful and great to have on in the background or just jam out to!

I hope you all have a great week,

Greg

While starting a new job, I surprisingly was still able to find some new music to assemble in a list for y’all. Starting off with a bang, we have a really original track from Local Natives that really doens’t sound like anything they have put out before. Very exciting. Moving on to new Angel Olsen as well that swells with such intensity like only she can. “Still gotta wake up and be someone” basically summed up my entire Tuesday, so I have enjoyed this track solely based upon that line…and then some.

Vince Staples has been killing the game, and with the wondrous jams of Clams Casino, one can do no wrong. Hard hitting rhymes killin’ it!

Dâm-Funk? DAMN FUNK! Sounds like something out of the 80’s and there is nothing wrong with that! It’s so infectious and I actually never want it to stop. This new album from this artist will certainly be much anticipated by yours truly!

Jumping towards the end of the list we have two new tracks from newly released albums, one being from Peter Bjorn & John’s “Breakin’ Point” and the next being from veterans  Garbage’s “Strange Little Birds”. The former being a glitchy dancy track and the latter being hard, proggy track that can rival any NIN track. These peeps definitely got it dialed in and this album is complete proof of that. I can’t get enough of it.

Enjoy,

Greg

Tuesday, June 7th, 2016

Holy hell, guys! These past couple weeks have been like a whirlwind. Sadly, I missed last week’s post, though I’m back with a short one this week and some KILLER new music.

Starting off strong, we have an exciting new track from The Avalanches that is probably the most multifaceted song you will hear all year. It also happens be the first song from these guys in SIXTEEN YEARS!!! What could top that you say? Well, the next song from a little act named Beck was released the same exact day and I have to say, it quickly became my favorite Beck song ever. I’m sure you’ll agree after hearing it, so fun, so summery, so synthy, so Donkey Kong Country-y?! Skipping ahead, we’re still going strong with this crazy track from this crazy producer called Machinedrum and it bangs harder than hell. I have listened to this song at least 50 times in the past 72 hours and I can’t get enough.

Also, on this list, we’re seeing strong new music from The Head and the Heart, The Kills, and Slaptop.

This week’s playlist is like a hottest new hits sandwich with three strong final tracks as well. The first coming from Boston producer iMAGiN8 that truly makes any time “Adventure Time”. The next is Bossa Nova track from Parisians Caravan Palace. I cannot get enough of these guys’ music. If you haven’t checked them out, go do yourself a favor and go through their entire (extensive) catalog, it does not fail to please! Last, but certainly not least, is a new track from the ever-interesting Sofi Tukker. A two piece who met while studying at Brown University that does not settle for making music like you’ve heard before. They refuse to be “derivative” and have a sound that is fresh and worldly, also, it doesn’t hurt that all of their tracks are complete bangers.

Enjoy!

Are you “Ready For This”, because were kicking this off real official-like with a track from Weird Together. It’s truly a fun song and by the looks of their Facebook blowing up, it’s helping out on some growth for the band. Next up is a song I’ve been hearing on KCRW for the past couple days and everytime I heard it, I just fell in love with it all over again. It’s an amalgam of a whole bunch of different instruments and movements and it’s beautiful. Kind of odd that it’s a song called “Satan”, so basically…I like “Satan.” Thanks D.D Dumbo, I’m going to hell for you!

Skip a couple songs and you’ll hear some powerhouse female vocals that will leave you speechless. The first comes from a duo called Ardyn and I’m getting a Florence & The Machine vibe from their new single “Over the River.” It’s definitely a song to put in heavy rotation. While you’re at it, go ahead and add the next song by Broods as well. “Couldn’t Believe” is the second track we’ve heard from their new album, and reception has been pretty positive. So much anticipation, I’m certainly enjoying what I have heard so far!

Next up is one of the many songs that I enjoyed from the newly released Grateful Dead tribute 3xLP (entitled “Day of the Dead”) that was put out by some members of The National. This track is Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s take on “Shakedown Street” and their sound just works so well for this era of GD. Running up to the end of the list, we have a killer track from a group called Swim Good. For a second I almost thought this song was new material from Phoenix. It has personality and while it’s got some fidgety textures to it, it sounds so crisp, clean, and cohesive. Looking into this track, I wasn’t actually able to find much on Swim Good other than he is a producer from Toronto and his label keeps incorrectly tagging a pop-punk band from the UK with the same name. I’m sure they are enjoying all the extra plays on Spotify as this song somehow made it on the same bands page on here! Luckily, I do the hard-hitting snooping for you and found this write-up on the man, named Jon Jasper-Lawless. Closing out on a strong track, we have one that soars by a man out of Brooklyn named Charlie Mischer recording under the moniker Paideia. Guys, this track BANGS, it just keeps going and going and building and slaying my eardrums with beautiful, heavy synth.

Have a great night!

Greg

LRDC This Week New Music Playlist – 5/17/16

Tuesday, May 17th, 2016

Hello to you on this happy Tuesday. Are you ready for new music? Of course you are!

The first track is from Los Angeleno group Mondo Cozmo and it just sails! With fun samples and anthemic vocals, there’s no doubt these guys are going places. This is the only track we have from them so far, but hopefully we get some more very soon! We move to a very “clubby” track from Slaptop that really gets the mood right. Certainly he’ll be getting the mood right poolside at Splash House in Palm Springs this June, for tickets, see here.

Switching gears a bit, we have a brand new track from Trails and Ways who won me over several years ago with a track called “Nunca” when seeing them live. This song, entiteled “My Things” is very nice as well, and I’m stoked for new material from these guys. Talking about a band who won me over with a track, WE HAVE NEW CHVRCHES, I repeat…WE HAVE NEW CHVRCHES!!! It keeps with the vibe of their last album, though this one will be featured on the soundtrack for an upcoming video game called “Mirror’s Edge Catalyst.”

We’re going to make a jump over to this track from KAYTRANADA & Shay Lia that really blew me away. This album came out a couple weeks ago and with some time to digest it, I found the track that needed to be on LRDC. It’s a bit tribal, a bit quiet, a bit electronic, a bit ethereal, and “99.9%” tightness!

Killing it with a cute single cover, this song by BOYBOY called “Vices” reminds me so much of Phoenix and is thus worthy of being featured. They only have 3 tracks, though all of them are fire. AAAAND to close out this week’s list, what better title for a track could I find than “Final Song” by breakout Danish artist . She first came on my radar when touring with CHVRCHES for their first tour in America. She absolutely blew me away with a stellar show and it was nothing short of perfect. This song is also set for instant radio time (it already has 1.5+ million plays in 4 days on Spotify). So, brace yourself, it’s going to be coming to a dance party near you, and I have no problem with that.

Enjoy,
Greg

LRDC #THIS Week New Music Playlist 11/17

Tuesday, November 17th, 2015

This week is such a treat for you and you don’t even know it yet, but you’re about to! We have some BIG returns from some bands we haven’t heard from in a minute. The first and most important is going to School of Seven Bells with new music coming from one half of their band, Alejandra Deheza. After losing Benjamin Curtis, her good friend and bandmate to lymphoma, it’s hard to deny that this music that will be released going forward means a ton to Alejandra and the fans (including me). Getting to the track, it’s exactly what you would expect from SVIIB and while their music is often emotional, this is will really tug at your heartstrings and “you’ll fall in love again.”

Okay, pull yourself back together, I’m so sorry to start you off on such a down note! Let’s steer from the sad and focus on the hopeful, and this will come in the form of a new track from The Big Pink called “Hightimes.” This is the first new music we’ve seen from the English duo since 2012 and I’m absolutely stoked. The first song I heard from them is a banger, and while this doesn’t hit quite as hard, it’s freaking beautiful and I love it.

I’ve been prone to man crushes and oftentimes they aren’t even based on looks. Oftentimes they are based on the amazing thing that I’m hearing the man produce. One such example of this is Rostam Batmanglij (I know, winner of the sickest name ever, right), and his several projects. Some you may have heard of, like Vampire FREAKING Weekend and a personal favorite of mine, Discovery. He has teamed up with Ra Ra Riot (like he did for Discovery with Wes Miles) to make a silky smooth track called “Water.” I’m also fully aware that I always feature some sort of track that has to do with water, but maybe this is what makes them amazing, you ever think of that? Excited to hear from both of the contributing parties to this song as this may be the closest I’ll get to Discovery for a while.

Honorable mentions are as follows:

Givers – “Bermuda” – This band is it, they have such a dialed in sound with a great mix of synth, unique percussion, all with a traditional rock band set up. Looks like this is their first new music since 2011 and as I’m finding them just now, I have to say “it’s about damn time.” I would really love to see them perform their stuff live.

Bibio – “Petals” – Bibio has now made it back to the list. I actually had to into the wayback machine to see that I had actually posted on them in ’14. The same sentiment I have for him still stands, the music this man produces I can only compare to a beautiful painting full of texture and color.

Classixx ft. T-Pain – ” Whatever I Want” – Chill, islandy synth with the auto-tune king himself on the track? I’d call it a winning combo AND Classixx is from Los Angeles, so good ish all around! This one is going to be in my rotation for a LONG time.

Missy Elliot ft. Pharrell Williams – “WTF (Where They From)” – New freaking music from Missy??? She’s still got it!

Enjoy, party people!
