LRDC This Week New Music Playlist 6/7/16

Tuesday, June 7th, 2016

Holy hell, guys! These past couple weeks have been like a whirlwind. Sadly, I missed last week’s post, though I’m back with a short one this week and some KILLER new music.

Starting off strong, we have an exciting new track from The Avalanches that is probably the most multifaceted song you will hear all year. It also happens be the first song from these guys in SIXTEEN YEARS!!! What could top that you say? Well, the next song from a little act named Beck was released the same exact day and I have to say, it quickly became my favorite Beck song ever. I’m sure you’ll agree after hearing it, so fun, so summery, so synthy, so Donkey Kong Country-y?! Skipping ahead, we’re still going strong with this crazy track from this crazy producer called Machinedrum and it bangs harder than hell. I have listened to this song at least 50 times in the past 72 hours and I can’t get enough.

Also, on this list, we’re seeing strong new music from The Head and the Heart, The Kills, and Slaptop.

This week’s playlist is like a hottest new hits sandwich with three strong final tracks as well. The first coming from Boston producer iMAGiN8 that truly makes any time “Adventure Time”. The next is Bossa Nova track from Parisians Caravan Palace. I cannot get enough of these guys’ music. If you haven’t checked them out, go do yourself a favor and go through their entire (extensive) catalog, it does not fail to please! Last, but certainly not least, is a new track from the ever-interesting Sofi Tukker. A two piece who met while studying at Brown University that does not settle for making music like you’ve heard before. They refuse to be “derivative” and have a sound that is fresh and worldly, also, it doesn’t hurt that all of their tracks are complete bangers.

Enjoy!

LRDC This Week New Music Playlist – 5/17/16

Tuesday, May 17th, 2016

Hello to you on this happy Tuesday. Are you ready for new music? Of course you are!

The first track is from Los Angeleno group Mondo Cozmo and it just sails! With fun samples and anthemic vocals, there’s no doubt these guys are going places. This is the only track we have from them so far, but hopefully we get some more very soon! We move to a very “clubby” track from Slaptop that really gets the mood right. Certainly he’ll be getting the mood right poolside at Splash House in Palm Springs this June, for tickets, see here.

Switching gears a bit, we have a brand new track from Trails and Ways who won me over several years ago with a track called “Nunca” when seeing them live. This song, entiteled “My Things” is very nice as well, and I’m stoked for new material from these guys. Talking about a band who won me over with a track, WE HAVE NEW CHVRCHES, I repeat…WE HAVE NEW CHVRCHES!!! It keeps with the vibe of their last album, though this one will be featured on the soundtrack for an upcoming video game called “Mirror’s Edge Catalyst.”

We’re going to make a jump over to this track from KAYTRANADA & Shay Lia that really blew me away. This album came out a couple weeks ago and with some time to digest it, I found the track that needed to be on LRDC. It’s a bit tribal, a bit quiet, a bit electronic, a bit ethereal, and “99.9%” tightness!

Killing it with a cute single cover, this song by BOYBOY called “Vices” reminds me so much of Phoenix and is thus worthy of being featured. They only have 3 tracks, though all of them are fire. AAAAND to close out this week’s list, what better title for a track could I find than “Final Song” by breakout Danish artist . She first came on my radar when touring with CHVRCHES for their first tour in America. She absolutely blew me away with a stellar show and it was nothing short of perfect. This song is also set for instant radio time (it already has 1.5+ million plays in 4 days on Spotify). So, brace yourself, it’s going to be coming to a dance party near you, and I have no problem with that.

Enjoy,
Greg

LRDC #THIS Week New Music Playlist 10/27

Tuesday, October 27th, 2015

Sorry guys, this may be a shorter post. Work has been killer, but there are some great new songs this week that deserve the limelight! Jumping right in, let’s get into the Delorean, crank it to 88 and head to 1988 to a live show of The Talking Heads. Just kidding, you’re in your mom’s Corolla, it won’t go 88 and it’s 2015 and you’re listening to a new song by UK natives Field Music called “The Noisy Days are Over.” I really just drove that comparison home, but aren’t there some striking similarities? That’s what I thought! Next in your heavy rotation for the week is a new jam from Chet Faker along with Marcus Marr entitled “The Trouble With Us.” It’s a straight funky pop jam that is a bit Calvin Harris did a single with Justin Timberlake, but as I always say, nothing wrong with that. It is sure to get a ton of listens and launch Chet Faker to even more success than he was already seeing, which is a ton!

*Buzz* *buzz* *buzz*, can you hear it? It’s Grimes, guys, stealing all the limelight from everyone! She has been rumored to have a new full length coming out for so long and last week we got our first look at the album art for said release. She’s a fan of doing things out of nowhere and controlling the timing at which things come out. The track on this week’s list was released two days ago and came almost out of nowhere. The song itself, “Flesh Without Blood,”  has a signature Grimes sound that we have come to know from her full-lengths and her countless singles over the past year that I’ve heard will not even be making it to the aforementioned full length. This track has a very widespread appeal in my opinion, much like “Realiti” & “Go”, some of her more recent singles. It is great to see a strong leading track and I hope we hear some more fire from Grimes as these singles trickle in.

Have you heard of Kamp!? Likely not, but for the past couple years they have been gaining some buzz (while mostly in Scandanavia) with a signature yet dynamic sound that stays within the fuzzy, prog-synth realm. The Polish three piece has a wikipedia page…but it can only be found in Polish, which is quite interesting. Well, they have a full length that released last week called “Orneta” and it went pretty much unnoticed by Americans, but here I am, telling you to listen to it, so let’s set the trend in the opposite way! After a couple listens, the track that really stood out was called “Zandata Mondata” and is the fourth song on our list. This song is just so great, I have been listening to it on repeat all weekend! I suggest you do the same.

Here are the honorable mentions for this week:

Negative Gemini – “You Never Knew” – Seeing as Halloween is this week, what’s more appropriate than including a song that will haunt you. Believe me, listen to this once and you’ll be inaudibly singing “You Never Knew” ALL DAMN DAY. It’s actually kind of cool, you should try it out!

St. Lucia – “Dancing On Glass” – A personal favorite of mine, St. Lucia just has the musical chemistry right to put me in the best mood ever. This song is very much inclusive of that quality! This is the first we’re hearing from them in 2 full years, so I’m excited for another release to keep up my Discography of them on vinyl #humblebrag

Raury – “Kingdom Come” – This singer songwriter has it. This song is just executed so well and I can’t say enough about this newcomer. Apparently I’m not alone, because he has absolutely blown up over the past couple weeks.

Ugh, there’s so many more wonderful musicians I would love to feature, but that’s it for this week. Enjoy this week’s playlist and maybe leave some love about the artists I wasn’t able to write about below.

LRDC #THIS Week 9/22 New Music Playlist

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2015

We interrupt your normally scheduled chillwave playlist to present you the danciest LRDC playlist yet! Whether you’re shaking your rump to our newest installment from Canadian rockers Stars, “A Simple Song,” or you’re literally letting it all loose new A-Trak music, a song called “We All Fall Down.” A sophomore to these lists, Kisses has another new song that absolutely blows my mind, called “The Nile.” With their neo-70’s disco, they will key their little synth straight into your heart…and honestly how can you not love their name and their twitter handle (@BlowKissess). Then we have another new song by the breakthrough act Slaptop called “Walls” that will make you want to create your own jungle tribal dance to. I guarantee if you to put this song on at a small gathering, someone will comment on it…it’s THAT good! If you want to kick off this weekend like Greased Lightening, channel your inner John Travolta (minus all the weird beliefs) with “MDR” from this sick Belgian solo act called Petite Noir. If you want to witness perfection when it comes to producing dancable electro-indie (IMO) take a little listen to “Nostalgia” by RAC & Doe Paoro.

Okay, okay! It’s not ALL dance music, because we have a great new song from the all-female Hinds (fka Deers) who have been killing the lo-fi garage game as of late. Not into that? Well, we have some glitchy orchestrals coming straight from New York trio Battles in “FF Bada.” There is something so familiar, yet so new and inviting (cue the staccato guitars) in this track and it will have you entertained for many listens over the next week! For those of you who are fans of the sounds of Surfer Blood but also have an affinity for female leads, look no farther than Moving Panoramas. Their song “One” focuses on linearity and simplicity without sacrificing an encapsulating sound that will leave you wanting more.

And our honorable mentions will begin now:

Beat Connection – “Illusion” – Just as their name would lead on, Beat Connection has the uncanny ability to create music that is best listened to with other people, either friends or a very special someone. Share this with your bestie or lover this week!

Aquilo – “Good Girl” – The title aside, I have a feeling that this song strikes the XX chromosomes to actually act like a “bad girl.” This sets the mood off right and would fit anywhere from a cocktail lounge to the bedroom.

Mansionair – “Speak Easy” – This outfit out of Sydney can cater to a ton of fans. I’m hearing some Snow Patrol, Coldplay, and even Enya in the chill sounds Mansionair has produced. Hipsters rejoice, though, they only have 14k likes on Facebook

Wild Belle – “Giving Up On You” – If you work with me (or date me…Megan), you definitely know I have a small crush on Natalie Bergman, who is one half of this brother-sister group. This band is intriguing in the fact that they meld indie-pop seamlessly with so many island influences. Whether it be in the percussion or the sounds in the background, it’s just so alluring to me and I hope you enjoy.

Have a great week,

-Greg
